Imagine my excitement as I ran to the mailbox. I prayed the red envelope would be inside, and when I looked in, there it was.

It’s been two whole days since I knew it would be coming, and I was bursting at the seams.

I opened the envelope and took out the DVD, Buckminster Fuller: The Lost Interviews’ and praised Netflix for the umpteenth time. I swear, Netflix delivers joy!

I was squeamish with delight as I placed the round disk into the DVD player and hit play.

I was ready.

I had no idea the gems that were about to be dropped so blatantly into the reservoir of my soul, the pebbles of insight out from which greater thinking ripples accordingly.

Keep in mind my premise, a faulty foundation inevitably leads to faulty conclusions. Even if you inadvertently arrive at the correct conclusion, if you have incorrect thinking you will not proceed in a manner that serves to forward your desires. Your actions are always in alignment with your thinking, and your thinking stems from the pool of your foundation. This is the most important premise to understand. You must keep the pool of knowledge you draw from filled with clean, clear thought and premises. I cannot stress the importance of this enough.

Buckminster Fuller did something which at the time was considered outrageous. He thought his own thoughts. Can you imagine? Sitting in my living watching this man, who is responsible for the geodesic dome among other things, telling me that thinking for yourself is a revolutionary act. Huh? Everybody I know seems to think for themselves in one way or another, but the emphasis this great man put on this concept forced me to contemplate it to the depths he was considering it.

He spoke about how our accepted methods of education “degenius” us and how he choose to get un-degeniused. If you don’t understand the brilliance of this simple, simple concept I beg you to consider and contemplate how you acquired your current belief system and knowledge. (more coming)

This morning The Today Show featured a segment on a girl who dresses herself from the garbage.  It was called Garbage Couture and this woman, I forget her name, was being asked what she would recommend to someone who wanted to get started collecting their wardrobe from dumpsters.  “Open your eyes,” she said exuberantly.  “All you have to do is become more aware.” She said as she realized she had another very important point to make.  “I don’t dumpster dive.  That’s disgusting,”  she continued,  “I only take things I can see from where I’m standing.”  Oh and one more thing.  Common sense hygiene rules apply.

I wonder if there is anything happening anywhere else in the world.

To a mother who asked advice on becoming a typist to supplement the family income, the Rebbe wrote:

Don’t become a typist. You are a mother. Type, if you feel you need to in order to support your family. But don’t become a typist.

The difference between myself and others on this planet is that I have continually lived in “I don’t know,’ never settling on a household, man, job, or project for very long. Other people have more problems with the way I live than I do. Most people bite off a little chunk of the world and get comfortable inside. I have never been comfortable. I will never be able to describe myself as a this, or a that. How reductive is that thinking? No wonder when someone introduces me as a writer I immediately pipe in with, I’m also a chef and an entrepreneur. But what about I’m a seeker or a believer or an anarchist or a sailor or a golfer. How about don’t box me into a mold with your words? This statement is not charged with vitriol it is charged with a challenge. Perhaps it will cause you to look at your own life and see where you box yourself in. That’s really what I’m interested in. I want you to take 10 minutes or 5 minutes or 30 seconds to step outside of your life and look in. Just look. See where you are. Notice where you think you have control and where you don’t. Notice yourself. Notice the moment. Sit quietly. Listen. Feel your body. Notice everything. Just notice. From this place you will find truth.

I was watching a DVD of the 2006 TED Conference (Technology, Education, Design) and wanted to sent along this important story told by Sir Ken Robinson.  Sir Robinson is writing a book called Epiphany, on how people discovered their talent.  The book was inspired by the following story.

Have you ever of Gillian Lynn?  Most people haven’t.  Well she was really hopeless at school.  The school wrote to her parents and said she had a learning disorder; she couldn’t concentrate and she was always fidgeting.  This was back in the 30’s.  These days they’d probably call it ADHD.

The school recommended a specialist and Gillian’s parents made an appointment.  They went and sat in an oak paneled room and talked about the problems Gillian’ had been having in school.  The specialist talked with Gillian and her mother and then requested a private conference with Mrs. Lynn.

On their way out of the office, he turned up the radio on his desk.  He told Mrs. Lynn to watch her daughter, who immediately started moving to the music.

After a moment the doctor looked at Mrs. Lynn and smiled.

“You’re daughter isn’t sick,” the doctor said.  She’s a dancer. Take her to a dance school.”

And her mother did.  Here’s what Gillian had to say about it.

“I walked in this room and it was full of people like me; people who couldn’t sit still.  People who had to move to think.”

And what happened to her?

She eventually auditioned for the Royal Ballet school and become a soloist, had a wonderful career at The Royal Ballet,  graduated and found her own dance company, met Andrew Lloyd Weber and has been responsible for some of the most successful theater productions in history, she’s given pleasure to millions and is a multi-millionaire.

Someone else might have put her on drugs and told her to calm down.

There is an epidemic sweeping the nation that is worse than cancer, diabetes and dare I say, Restless Leg Syndrome. The only known cure for it is for America to take some initiative and wake the hell up.

Keep your eyes open for it:

Symptoms of O.P.C.D are many, ranging from finding yourself daydreaming about the ways cialis can help you, to wondering how bad leaky butt syndrome could be if your blood pressure is actually lowered, to finding yourself wondering how Plavix could possibly help those dancing and singing beavers.

What is this disease taking America by storm? Overactive Pharmaceutical Company Disorder (O.P.C.D.). It’s evident on the TV and in magazines and newspapers, it seems you cannot walk around with open eyes these days and not get a heaping helping of why you need some drug to help you with that problem you didn’t know you had. Don’t forget to ask your doctor.

I would like to pose a challenge. Stop believing everything you hear or read when it comes to your health. Become a detective and read more than one side of the debate. The only way to know anything is to know all sides, not just yours, or your ‘educated by Phizer’ doctor’s. Explore. Test out how your body reacts to different foods and supplements you ingest. Don’t believe everything you hear, even the things that support your beliefs.

We have got to take the time, expend the energy and collectively start focusing on what is important for the future of the world we want to live in. Taking care of your health is the first line of defense. As long as our general population is on drugs (and I mean prescribed), as long as individuals believe that they need to take this pill or that to be healthy, without questioning ‘the system’, until individuals, men and women, first understand and second, stop accepting the way it is, nothing will change.

Any ideas?

Do you feel nauseous every time you hear the word Namaste? Do all your friends go to “healers” and yet are never “healed”? Have you grown weary of the never ending quest for self-help; the seminars, personal coaches, the looking for yet never finding answers… or are you looking for the latest question? What exactly should you be looking for?

If you’ve spent your life seeking out the widest range of the latest healing techniques (fads) because you would be horrified if you missed the one technique that could really save you, if you’re really a type “A” personality hiding behind a New Age reality, we have great news for you. You can free yourself. You can let your hair down. There is nothing wrong with you. You are not broken. Welcome to the last fad you will ever need. Welcome to the New Rage.

The New Rage Movement gets you off the cutting edge of bullshit and on the cutting edge of the re-volution. Are you ready to breathe new life into your old seeking self? Congratulations. If you are reading this blog you are ready to receive The New Rage. You have been drawn to this blog for a reason.*

The New Rage has had it with New Ager’s that use God as their personal reason to act like an asshole. Someone once told me “God put me in your life to bring up your issues,” right after she acted like an asshole. “No, you’ve got that wrong,” I pointed out. ”God put you in my life to help me strengthen my boundaries. Ba-bye.”

If you’re tired of attending seminars, looking for the next best healing technique and hearing about the new age movement, if you just plain don’t believe that eating tofu and listening to fluffy music with lots of harps in it will improve your life, stick around and have some fun.

This blog presents you with guidelines for moving away from The New Age (put down that affirmation) toward a new era. An era of fun. An era of incorrectness. The New Rage is taking over and you’ll want to be aboard. Welcome.

Remember, looking into the light all the time will blind you, and besides, who can sleep?
